ALCOHOL PUT TO GOOD USE

Leyland Police held a lottery at Christmas of all the alcohol confiscated from youth on the streets etc, under the under-age drinking initiatives actioned throughout the summer and autumn months (in preference to pouring it away), all monies from tickets (100%) has gone to local Community Initiatives and Charities. 1000 tickets were printed for sale to NW Co-ordinators and persons in agencies associated with crime prevention / police initiatives.
The sum of £784 was raised, the breakdown of which is as follows:
£400 to Moss Side Community Forum to fund the newly formed Moss Side Community Football Team (under 12’s),
£100 to Balshaw High School to fund a Memorial Garden in remembrance of a pupil who recently died in a tragic traffic accident,
£284 split between local charities, St. Catherine’s Hospice and Derian House.
This will continue again in 2007 but will be managed by Lanpac (Lancashire Partnership Against Crime).
It is likely to be run twice a year, fitting in with their Charity Fundraisers, also avoiding outdated goods. Ticket distribution is yet to be finalised but details will be published when available.
