OPERATION COLDSTART
3/12/09 - Lancashire Police currently have Operation Coldstart running. This operation is where officers are going out and speaking with drivers who leave their engines running in the mornings whilst windscreens defrost (and perhaps go back inside to get ready for work). On Tuesday morning, when it had been freezing overnight, officers spoke with 30 drivers who had done just this. Just a word of warning: there are opportunists out there looking for residents doing this and are ready to steal vehicles. By doing this, drivers run the risk of their insurance company perhaps not paying out. Also, this is, in itself, an offence known as "quitting", for which drivers could be prosecuted.

AGM 2009

This took place in the Ellis Conference Centre at Lancashire Constabulary HQ on Thursday 24th September. There were a number of display stands from relevant organisations / agencies for attendees to visit before the start of the meeting proper. There was also a raffle in aid of SRNWA and North West Air Ambulance.
The meeting itself started at 7.30pm and was opened by the Mayor, Councillor Don Parkinson. Beverley Warburton explained that four members had asked to join the Executive Committee and, as the total of new and existing members is less than the 21 permitted under the constitution, there was therefore no need for an election. The new members are: Jean Damp, Fiona Riley, Kim Stammers and Christopher Woods.
Peter Tickle explained that as the Treasurer (Anne Baker) was unwell he would therefore present the accounts on her behalf. He explained that the SRNWA is in a strong financial position and he referred to copies of the accounts that had been made available to all attendees. Each entry on the accounts was briefly explained. The balance in the account at the time of the AGM is £5858.37 but £5,500 of this is already earmarked for spending on two projects. There were no questions from the attendees. The Chair of SRNWA, Ann Bretherton, then made a brief speech.
Chief Superintendent Stuart Williams (Divisional Police Commander) gave a presentation about policing and partnership issues. This was followed by PC Steve Dawson from the Dog Training Centre, who gave a presentation in relation to the training and use of police dogs. He was assisted by two of his colleagues and their police dogs.
Finally, Linda Tune from the Probation Service gave a presentation on “Community Payback”.
Beverley informed everyone that the raffle raised £105, before Keith Warren MBE gave the closing speech.
