There was youth nuisance and under age drinking on Hurst Grange Park.

We did: Highly visible patrols were carried out by neighbourhood officers every evening. Youths present or passing through were spoken to and challenged. Intelligence reports were interrogated to glean any information as to the identity of the persons responsible. Residents on Hurst Park and Glenway were visited by the neighbourhood team to identify the extent of the problem and the effect that has on residents living in the area. Two youths have been prosecuted for causing damage at the adjoining School and two more are in the process of being prosecuted. 4 Fixed penalty notices for drinking under age on the park have been issued fining the youths in question £40.00. Youth referrals have continued to be issued along with taking drunken youths home and challenging their parents in their own homes. The council are visiting the location in the mornings to clear away broken glass and litter left by the groups. The councils neighbourhood officers or park wardens regularly patrol the area and call the police should that be required. Penwortham Girls High school are improving their security by fencing up gaps in the hedges to stop access to the field from the park. They are improving the standard of the glazing in their windows and considering installing CCTV. Policing operations have been carried out targeting known anti social behaviour nominals. The CBM (Community Beat Manager) attended a meeting at the coach house in the park with a view to having a police office at the site when it’s refurbishment is carried out.

As a result: The complainants have been spoken to and the problems have reduced but not gone completely. The neighbourhood team will continue to monitor the problem and work alongside residents, parents, the school and park volunteers to reduce the impact of the youths gathering on the park.

We did: The neighbourhood team allocated a high percentage of their patrol time to the area offering a highly visible presence to offer reassurance to residents. The head of the school has agreed to speak with residents about the problems and discuss possible solutions. Any youths found on the premises in the evenings have been moved on and letters sent to parents if suitable.

As a result: Complaints have reduced and the neighbourhood team will continue to monitor and deal with any issues that arise.
